Destination Africa: Exploring Eden
Jambo! This is Dave Frinton, Co-owner and President of CruisePlus. Africa is my happy place on Earth and to be honest not where I’d want to live, but an absolutely incredible place to visit. I’ve been lucky enough to have hosted 8 trips mainly to East Africa (Kenya and Tanzania) with a taste of Uganda, South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe. I’ve also cruised to Madagascar, the Seychelles and the Comores. I strongly recommend that no matter what style of travel you may be considering, whether with one of our incredible cruise partners or our fantastic land partners, that you allow enough time to get into the best game reserves and national parks to see iconic animals in their natural habitat. The East Africa game viewing is normally superior and the vast plains of the Serengeti and the Mara are, in my opinion, the Rolls Royce of African safaris. South Africa is often a bit easier to get to and most cruises are embarking or disembarking from Capetown. If you’re limited on time, many people will include extra days in Capetown and head north for the animals and Victoria Falls. This part of Africa normally does not require any malaria medications or yellow fever vaccinations (where more equatorial countries will), however, I still recommend you check for current requirements or suggested medications with your physician before undertaking your journey.
The Magic of Africa: Safaris, Stunning Landscapes & Outstanding People
Victoria Falls are quite spectacular and ideally, you should try to see them in their full glory shortly after or during the rainy season to get the full magical effect. The short, and quite inexpensive, helicopter ride above them is well worth it and the walk through the park on the Zimbabwe side is a pretty easy walk and the Victoria Falls Hotel is an historical and elegant place to stay. You can also come in from the Zambia side – and they are really upping their game for tourists for not just the falls but also for game safaris.
Your African Adventure Awaits!
Bottom line is that Africa is a long way to get to, so spoil yourself and see more while you’re there – whether taking the train to the wine country, or enjoying the tropical coast, or perhaps doing something a little more adventurous seeing the lemurs in Madagascar (I loved that!) or the gorillas in Uganda (that was great too!) or Rwanda, CruisePlus can help you pick the right trip for you. While the cruise lines do offer pre or post-cruise options, my recommendation would be to work with us and one of our preferred tour operators and let’s either go with a scheduled fixed departure option or create something 100% custom for you. You’ll love it! I have always found the local people to be friendly and fun, and the beauty is really hard to beat anywhere in the world. Asante Sana!….how do you like my Swahili?
