Join CruisePlus’ Dave on his Excellent Adventures!

I’m a very lucky guy!  Since I was a child I was introduced to the world.  From age 20, with the exception of only 3 months and some night time instructing at BCIT, I’ve worked for myself and always planned my life making sure there was plenty of vacation time every year.  I’ve been involved in the travel business since the early 1980s, which obviously is the industry that I’ve had the most passion for.  Now at 60, I have been to around 70 countries, been to all 7 continents and have enjoyed some of the most spectacular sites and cruising on the planet.  I’ve done many soft adventures, including diving the Great Barrier Reef, Tahiti, Africa, and Hawaii;  I’ve been with gorillas in Uganda;  I’ve hiked in the snow with penguins in Antarctica; got up close and personal with polar bears in Churchill; flown over and hiked Victoria Falls;  seen tiger on safari in India;  sailed in Turkey and the west coast (including a 7 week trip from Vancouver to Glacier Bay, Alaska); been to Africa 8 times on safari; skied the Alps and other iconic mountains in North America; snorkeled with Manta Ray and sharks in Bora Bora, the Maldives and much more.  I’ve seen so many of the great cities of the world and walked on more than my share of the most gorgeous beaches on Earth.

I’m writing a book about what I’ve learned about business and life – and in a nutshell, the theme is that life and time are precious and that “I’d rather have memories than crown molding”.  I could have worked harder and had more money in the bank, but my evaluation of success has been all these unbelievable visual experiences that I’ve been so privileged to have had.

My passion is travel and with any luck, I’ll be able to see even more and re-visit my happy places with my family, long-time friends and new friends.  It really is wonderful how often Shelley and I pick up new people on our travels that end up being so important to us.

Dave’s Hosted Journeys… So Far!

Why Am I Hosting and not Just Travelling on my Own?

I retired from CruisePlus the day before I turned 60 last year (2018).  My wife Shelley (who runs the business) calls it “semi-retirement”, as she won’t quite let me be completely out of touch.  What I am really looking forward to is a series of hosted adventures to some of my favourite places and to new spots still on my bucket list.  Failing any major health or family emergencies I will personally escort you, and with any luck, Shelley will be along every once and a while too.  I hope you’ll agree that I’ll make your vacation better and will provide exceptional value as well.

Hosting trips is not work to me.  It’s about getting to go somewhere and it being better than expected because of the people you share the experiences with.  I have just as much fun as our guests have, and I’ll do my best to add extra special memories to the trip.  We advise our guests to participate in our “events” only if you want to – just because we are booked as a “group” doesn’t mean you have to attend everything – but we hope you want to.  We hosted 5 mostly unscheduled dinners or cocktail parties on our recent hosted Windstar cruise in French Polynesia, and the turnouts were 100%!  There were several day trips planned at the back of the ship where some of us would rent a boat together to go exploring on our own as an example.  Everyone really liked everyone and wanted to participate – which I can’t always guarantee, but it is amazing when you put several like-minded people together, how the ice gets broken so quickly and the new friendships begin.  Bring your sense of adventure, your kindness to others and a great sense of humour and you’re going to fit in just fine!  I hope you can join me for one of my upcoming “Excellent Adventures” – it will be my goal to ensure you come home with terrific life-long memories and hopefully with a few new people in your world that you want to see and travel with again – including me!
