Day 2: Copenhagen - Oslo (Overnight Ferry)Following breakfast at the hotel, you depart by private coach on a panoramic sightseeing tour, a perfect introduction to 'Wonderful Copenhagen'. Driving towards City Hall Square, where the famous pedestrian street "Stroeget" begins, you are soon passing by Tivoli Gardens and onwards past the New Carlsberg Glyptotheque and the National Museum. Next is the Old Stock Exchange and the Naval Church, followed by the Kings New Square, the home of the Royal Danish Theatre and its world-famous ballet. Fabulous vistas come up on the stretch through the old canal area, Nyhavn, with its picturesque houses and boats. The impressive Gefion Fountain, the Royal residence, Amalienborg Palace, Christiansborg Palace and Rosenborg Castle, which houses the Crown Jewels, round out a tour that covers all the city highlights. A final stop is by the landmark of Copenhagen, the statue of the Little Mermaid before you return to your hotel. In the afternoon, you transfer to the pier by private coach to embark on the DFDS Seaways overnight ferry. The departure to Oslo is at approximately 4:30pm, and a Buffet Dinner will be served on board. NOTE: Passports must be shown when travelling between Denmark and Norway on the DFDS ferry. Clients travelling with identification cards other than a passport may not be allowed to board.
Day 3: Oslo - EidfjordEnjoy breakfast on board before arriving at the harbour in Oslo at 09:45am. After disembarkation, meet your guide and private coach to start your Norwegian journey with a drive across Hønefoss and Nesbyen through a delightful landscape that changes between pine forests and lakes until you arrive in the beautiful Hallingdal Valley. From here, the coach proceeds through the small towns of Gol and Geilo, the latter being one of Norway's first Alpine resorts. A little over an hour later you arrive at Hardangervidda to visit the impressive Voringfossen waterfall. The lovely town of Eidfjord and your hotel, are now just another 30 minutes away. After check-in, the rest of your day is at leisure. Dinner at the hotel is included.
Day 4: Eidfjord - BergenAfter breakfast at the hotel, today's drive starts with the impressive Hardanger Bridge, the longest suspension bridge in Norway and the 9th longest in the world, beating the Golden Gate Bridge by about 65 feet. From here, the scenic route along the Hardangerfjord is simply magnificent. Taking turns between the dramatic and the gentle, the steep mountainsides, lush green birch forests and fjords, still as a mirror, offer a myriad of breath-taking vistas. Bergen, known as the capital of the fjords and Norway's second city, presents itself as fabulously quaint town with colourful traditional houses surrounded by water on one side and mountains on the other. After checking into your hotel, you have some time on your own until the afternoon's panoramic sightseeing tour featuring highlights such as St. Mary's Church, Haakon's Hall, the authentic and picturesque fish market as well as the historic old Bryggen area. (Entrance fees are not included). After the tour, your evening is at leisure.
Day 5: Bergen - StalheimAfter breakfast at the hotel, your entire morning is at leisure to further explore wonderful Bergen. If you are musically inclined, you might consider a visit to famous Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg's Museum. If you are more in the mood for a walk into history, you can stroll around UNESCO-listed Bryggen, a picturesque reminder of the city's importance as part of the Hanseatic League that dates back to the 13th century. In the afternoon, your travels continue to Voss, known as Norway's adventure capital. After a short break, the journey continues towards Stalheim in the stunning Naeroy valley, where you check into your hotel. The rest of the afternoon is at leisure to enjoy the breath-taking views down the Stalheim Gorge. The high mountain is called the 'Jordalsnuten' which means 'Sugar lump' and travellers have been known to get lost in this wonderful view for hours. Dinner is included at the hotel.
Day 6: Stalheim - Flam - FagernesEnjoy breakfast at the hotel and, perhaps, a last wistful glance over the gorge. You won't have to wait long to see new amazing vistas when the coach continues its drive down the Naeroy valley to Gudvangen. Here, you board a ferry taking you along the Naeroyfjord, the most beautiful and wildest arm of the famous Sognefjord, which rightfully takes its place on the UNESCO World Heritage list. The Naeroyfjord is 17km long and at its narrowest point only about 820 feet wide. It is considered one of the most dramatic fjord trips in Europe. The steep coastal cliffs, waterfalls and idyllic farms, seemingly clinging to the mountainside, make this an incredibly unique journey. When you disembark at the delightful village of Flam, you can choose to join the optional ride on the famous, panoramic Flamsbana, check out the Stegastein Viewpoint or spend time exploring Flam on your own.
Day 7: Fagernes - OsloToday, you are leaving the mountains behind as you travel towards Oslo. Arrival in Norway's capital is early afternoon and after checking into your hotel and freshening up, you can enjoy a panoramic sightseeing tour of this fabulous city with its own fjord. The Opera House, Royal Palace and bustling Karl Johan Street, as well as a visit to Vigeland Park, are just some of the highlights covered. The tour ends at your hotel, leaving you to enjoy the evening at leisure to, perhaps, further explore the Viking capital at your own pace.
Day 8: Oslo - StockholmBe prepared for a long day of travel today, leaving Oslo after an early breakfast. It carries you through Norway into Sweden through a forested landscape dotted with thousands of lakes. An interesting point of your journey appears in the area of Varmland, which hugs the border with Norway to the east of Oslo. This large contiguous forest belt was once home to the "Forest Finns", a culture that no longer exists. Interestingly, a lot of local people today feel a strong connection to it because the Forest Finns' understanding of nature was rooted in an eastern shamanistic tradition, often associated with magic and mystery. The white moose of Varmland, a piece of recent magic, is now famous worldwide since video footage of its appearance went viral during 2017. Arrival in Stockholm is late in the afternoon and, after checking into your hotel, the rest of your evening is at leisure.
Day 9: StockholmAfter breakfast, a 3-hour sightseeing tour reveals that much of Stockholm is situated on the water, stretching across fourteen islands, connected by 57 bridges and continuing along the banks to the archipelago where Lake Malaren flows into the Baltic Sea. Not surprisingly, the locals call it 'Beauty on Water'. The city also embraces the unique character of an old 13th century town with modern high-tech architecture. Your tour travels past highlights such as the historically significant City Hall, best known as the place where the Nobel Prize festivities are being held and Gamla Stan, the Old Town, will surprise you with its medieval atmosphere. The drive to Fjallgatan on Sodermalm is a great finale to your tour, offering some incredible views over the Old Town, the museum island of Skeppsholmen, and the island of Djurgarden, the most visited tourist destination in Stockholm. The locals affectionately think of it as their balcony. The tour ends at the hotel and the rest of your day is at leisure.
Day 10: Stockholm - Helsinki (Overnight Ferry)After breakfast at the hotel, your morning is at leisure, providing a last opportunity for a stroll around the city. In the afternoon, you transfer to the pier by private coach to board one of the comfortable overnight ferries of the Tallink Silja Line, sailing along the Baltic Sea, bound for Helsinki.
Day 11: HelsinkiAfter arrival in Helsinki, around 9:45am, enjoy a 2-hour sightseeing tour of Finland's capital, also known as 'The Daughter of the Baltic Sea'. Included are significant highlights such as the Senate Square, the University and the Lutheran Cathedral, the Parliament Building and Finlandia Hall. The tour also passes the Orthodox Russian Church Uspenski as well as the colourful Market Square and includes a visit to Temppeliaukio Church*, called the 'Rock Church' as it is carved into solid rock. Away from the city centre is Kaivopuisto Park, one of the oldest and most loved parks in Helsinki. Situated on the southern tip of the peninsula, its terrain is quite varied, including long winding paths, lined by ancient trees and splendid views to the sea. The tour ends at your hotel and the afternoon is at your leisure. *the church reserves the right not to allow the entry of visitors in case of ceremonies.
Day 12: Helsinki DepartureAfter breakfast at your hotel, a Via Hansa and Borealis Destination Management English-speaking representative will meet you for the Regular Transfer Service to Helsinki Airport.
