Its numerous Roman ruins include a theatre from the first century B.C. and Casa de la Fortuna, a villa with mosaics and murals. In the Punic Wall Interpretation Center, you may see the remains of a defence wall from the third century B.C.
The unique four-story Belem Tower fortress sits directly on the banks of the Tagus, and was built in the 16th century to defend the harbor. Originally a lighthouse, it was also used as a prison.
