Viking Ocean Cruises: Elegant, Small-Ship Cruising
Viking Ocean Is emulating the admirable success of its sister brand, Viking River Cruises. After launching its first 930-guest, premium ship in 2015, it has promptly taken the #1 spot, in 2016 and 2017,with Travel and Leisure readers for Best Large Ship Line. Conde Nast Traveler readers voted Viking #3 Medium Ship Cruise Line, behind two ultra-luxury brands.
Already a leader in the world of river cruises, Viking Ocean Cruises has quickly become one of the most sought-after small-ship cruise lines sailing the globe’s oceans today. To find your next cruise adventure, contact CruisePlus and let us make the arrangements for you!
Viking now has four ocean-going ships and will have ten identical ships by 2023, basically one new ship per year. As with their river cruise brand, all ships offer a consistent experience. Every stateroom has a verandah. Each ship has a range of stateroom types, from basic veranda to penthouse veranda, that are similar in size to those of other premium brands.
The Viking Difference
Viking Ocean and River lines both focus on and deliver an outstanding destination experience. With smaller ships, they can go more places and have more port time in their itineraries. The Viking passenger is an ambitious traveler, much more inclined to visit a cultural site than to lounge on a beach. These are premium-oriented, adult sightseers, not ultra-luxury guests.
In Viking’s own words:
“We travel to explore, to learn, to understand. At Viking, we believe travel should be more than just a trip—it should be a doorway to cultural insight and personal enrichment. That is why our intimate, inclusive cruise itineraries are designed to help you explore nuances of your destination: its food, culture, people and customs.”
With smaller ships, Viking can offer you more personal service, enrichment programs, destination-focused dining, a complimentary excursion in every port, an extensive optional excursion program, TED talks, and destination experts. You will not find Kids clubs or casinos.
The ships are elegant and serene, without being extravagant. Fares include the complimentary excursions, unlimited wi-fi, beer and wine with lunch and dinner, alternative dining, port fees and taxes. Viking likes to promote by offering no-brainer airfare savings programs that include transfers. Gratuities are not included in your fare.
Viking delivers satisfied guests. Each of the three Viking ships has a 4.5 (out of 5) rating from the cruise reviewers on Cruisecritic. Not only does this reflect amazing consistency, the 4.5 rating exceeds every ultra-luxury and premium luxury ship in the competitive fleet. That is a remarkable accomplishment for a cruise line that will turn three years old in July, 2018.
